Because of their relationship, Hulkling and Wiccan have become one of the most inspiring couples in Marvel Comics. Their continued representation as an LGBT+ couple has allowed many readers to feel seen within the community, and they'll continue to inspire others. It's likelier that the writer, Josh Trujillo (who is a gay man himself), simply wanted to write a scene with these characters because he likes them and wanted them to interact.

Hulkling's creators originally considered creating a female character before deciding that Young Avengers offered them an opportunity to increase LGBT representation at Marvel, leading to his high-profile romantic pairing with his teammate Wiccan. Wiccan and Hulkling’s union represents the first same-sex wedding between two superheroes in the iconic comic publisher’s history.

Although Northstar of the X-Men married his partner, Kyle Jinadu, back in , Jinadu is not a superhero.
